The Enigma of Augustus

Les Deux Magots has a new signature pastry: L’Énigme d’Auguste!

For lovers of sweet treats, Les Deux Magots is delighted with its brand new signature pastry, L’Énigme d’Auguste. As the Maison celebrates its 140th anniversary this year, the new creation is a tribute to Auguste Boulay, the grandfather of Catherine Mathivat, current owner of Les Deux Magots, who took over the café in 1914.

Adding to the famous Tarte Tatin and our must-have pastry platter of crisp millefeuilles, melt-in-your-mouth éclairs and fruity tartelettes, it promises to seduce sweet tooths and snack break enthusiasts alike!

The Enigma of Augustus

A cocoa shell that melts under old-fashioned hot chocolate

L’Énigme d’Auguste, created in partnership with Arnaud Larher, is a dessert composed of a soft brownie cookie, topped with a 70% dark chocolate shell enveloping a creamy chocolate mousse, a generous layer of fleur de sel caramel and an elegant rosette of vanilla ganache. The shell of this creation melts delicately as the waitress pours Les Deux Magots’ old-fashioned hot chocolate, revealing the mystery of this delicious dessert.

“At the heart of L’Énigme d’Auguste lies an ambition shared with Les Deux Magots: to create a unique dessert, a taste experience reflecting the essence of our two Houses.. The choice of chocolate, in particular their famous hot chocolate, quickly became a central element. Delicately poured, it offers a theatrical dimension, revealing a rosette of vanilla ganache. Everyone can personalize their tasting experience by pouring the hot chocolate as they wish. This collaboration with Les Deux Magots, an iconic Paris café-restaurant, makes me happy, as we share a common passion for the business and the ambition to create memorable experiences for customers.” says Arnaud Larher, pastry chef and chocolatier Meilleur Ouvrier de France.

As you can see, Les Deux Magots’ new signature dessert is an enigma waiting to be solved!
